[album] Holm – Why Don’t You Dance

You probably heard of Mikkel Holm Silkjær as a frontman of the brilliant Danish post-punk outfit Yung, but on his debut solo record as Holm he opens up as he never did before.

On Why Don’t You Dance? (the title is inspired by the short story of the same name by Raymond Carver) he reflects on personal worryings which result in his strongest lyrical work to date. It is complemented well by the richly detailed, powerful music. It sounds brighter than his main group’s material but not less melancholic and thoughtful — some of the tracks are perfect guitar pop examples and some go into a more folky or gloomy directory.

The engaging, smart, and confident release marks a fantastic continuation to Mikkel’s solo career, and knowing how prolific is he, hopefully we are in for a lot more soon.

Later this month Danish songwriter and Yung frontman Mikkel Holm Silkjær releases his debut solo album Why Don’t You Dance as Holm through PNKSLM Recordings.

Many singles were already unleashed and now it is time for a last one before the record’s release, stunning “The Rope”. Elaborating on the new track, he said:

«It is a song about finding yourself in a situation in life that you’re unsatisfied with, but when you realise you have the remedies to change the state of things you choose not to act on it because everything’s a fucking joke anyway. Hahaha hello life».

The release of Why Don’t You Dance, the debut album by Danish songwriter and Yung frontman, Mikkel Holm Silkjær aka Holm has been postponed to January 28 recently, and today we are getting one more single from it, another stellar offering titled “K’s Choice”.

Describing it, the musician says that the track is about «an individual who lives their life without a care and without addressing the needs of the people surrounding them. It is a song about seeing yourself in a person you encounter and not liking what you’re confronted with, and then taking that sensation and turning it into something positive».

Danish songwriter and Yung frontman, Mikkel Holm Silkjær aka Holm has announced his debut album. It is called Why Don’t You Dance and will be released in November through PNKSLM Recordings.

He is introducing it with a brilliant first single, “Back Home”. Speaking of it, musician says:

«At times you bump into compelling people that truly fascinates you. It can be in a friendly context or a romantic context. Sometimes you meet someone where it’s more the naive perception of their life, which is never quite accurate, that compels you. Nevertheless, the song is about wanting to engage in some sort of a relation with a person, but not knowing how to make it happen. In some way it’s quite a banal feeling, which is why I think a lot of people might have felt it at some point, I certainly have been confronted with that sensation once or twice. The song references a specific incident in my life, but to anyone else it might mean something different, and that is, I think, the beauty about a banality»

Five long years we have been waiting for Yung to follow-up their fantastic debut, and Ongoing Dispute does not disappoint. It is not only a successful sophomore album, it is a true evolution for the Danish band.
