[video] Sourface – Solaire

Sourface is an Anglo-Parisian quartet that blends diverse musical genres such as new wave, surf rock, psychedelia, funk and electronic music into their sound.

Known for their eclectic and offbeat style, the band returned with the brand new single “Solaire”, a playful ode to the sun and its power as both a giver and destroyer of life.

Presented as a manifesto of sorts (the track offers a prelude for the forthcoming narrative saga The Eternal Summer), it is an excellent example of Sourface’s ability to mix styles into an irresistible hook-laden song. It is also out with the equally surreal and fun music video, directed by Jurskuu.

[video] Unschooling – Excommunicated

Unschooling performing live at MENT Festival, Ljubljana’23

Today, France’s Unschooling share the third and final single “Excommunicated” from their debut album New World Artifacts, which is out October 6 via Bad Vibrations (the band already teased us with “Brand New Storm” and “Ribbon Road” a bit earlier). It is a very interesting and different song from the group and is probably their best one yet.

Nearly 7 minutes long, it’s a raw and free-form experimental piece that goes far beyond the usual post-punk more into the territory of dark ambient/drone, providing the listener with some A+ class haunting material. Eerie ghosts footage as a music video is very appropriate here!

[video] Molly Burch – Tattoo

Molly Burch is back with a new single and video “Tattoo”, taken from her upcoming and highly-anticipated new album Daydreamer. It is set for release on September 29 via Captured Tracks.

The latest teaser from it (after “Physical” and “Unconditional”), “Tattoo”, is an emotional tribute to her late best friend, Lena, and is released alongside a music video, which she created with Lena’s sister Mia. She shares the following about it:

“We wanted to show footage of Lena and paint a picture of what she was like. We added in public domain footage of nature and visuals that reminded us of her. The line in the song ‘I wanna tell you it’s okay, even though it’s crazy, you wouldn’t believe it, I think you would hate it’ refers to how much she’s missed since she’s passed. Social media, climate disasters — as much as I wish she was here today, I think she would have had a really hard time with modern life. She had a severely sensitive soul. I added footage of wildfires, earthquakes, and water pollution to represent what I was saying with this line. I hope this song reaches people who have experienced great loss and can be a comfort to them. I share this with love”.

[video] W. H. Lung – High Pressure Days

W. H. Lung return with “High Pressure Days”, their version of a 1979 track by San Francisco synth-punk outfit The Units. Manchester group did a great tribute, blending vintage and contemporary sounds with catchy lyrics and danceable grooves.

It beautifully encapsulates the essence of the band’s musical style and thematic content and hopefully they are preparing to release more new stuff soon. The song is paired with the fun music video, directed by Craig McLaughlin.
