[video] Palehound – Independence Day

Already having released tracks “My Evil” and “The Clutch”, Palehound share a new single “Independence Day”, all taken from their upcoming record Eye On The Bat, which will be out July 14 on Polyvinyl Record Co.

It is a beautiful and cathartic song (out with the video directed by Brittany Reeber) that showcases El Kempner’s band talent as songwriters and their ability to convey complex emotions through music.

They share about the track: “The ending of a relationship that spanned the majority of my twenties illuminated a forked road that daunted me. In the aftermath of our breakup, I found myself dwelling on what that other life would have been like and who I would have become had we chosen differently, or even if circumstance or tragedy had chosen for us”.

[video] Naked Lungs – Relentless

Naked Lungs definitely know a thing or two about true horror, both in terms of sound and visuals — their latest single “Relentless” is another example of that.

A heavy dose of pure post-punk/industrial rock madness combined with the sinister and frightening music video directed by Ryan Mortell from the band works just perfectly, making this noisy Irish four-piece one of the most exciting outfits of 2023.

Their debut record Doomscroll will be out on August 18. It was recorded and mixed by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin. Moreover, Naked Lungs have also announced details for their first headline UK tour finishing at The Shacklewell Arms in London (find more information on that here).

Off the back of her brilliant 2022 EP Wetlands, Belfast-based Aoife Wolf shares a new number “A Ringing in the Ear”, a hauntingly beautiful song that captures the essence of loneliness in her powerful and emotional psychedelic folk sound.

The single is out with an atmospheric music video, directed by Limerick-based filmmaker Graham Patterson, which sets out to reimagine what Twin Peaks would look like if it was set in Ireland.

Unschooling performing live at MENT Festival, Ljubljana’23

Unschooling have announced their new album New World Artifacts which will be out October 6 via Bad Vibrations Records.

Today they share the first taste of it via the lead single “Brand New Storm”, a cool slice of inventive and experimental oddball post-punk, which is paired with the bizarre and fun music video, created by Clothilde Evide.

On the new single, lead vocalist Vincent Fevrier said, “Brand New Storm is a quintessential ‘stop and smell the flowers’ kind of track taken from New World Artifacts. The ordinary pop structure denotes a soft deluge of guitars, saxophone and organ overdubs but the whole thing is no less melodic. It’s a real return to the roots of my twee pop influences. The track has a nostalgic vibe which is accentuated by a rather lo-fi recording which is a very deliberate act. Brand New Storm is an invitation to let go despite the ups and downs of a romantic relationship, the fear of commitment. A call to step into the unknown”.

[video] Sarah Mary Chadwick – Shitty Town

Today Sarah Mary Chadwick announces her new album titled Messages To God, which will be out September 15 on consistently excellent Kill Rock Stars.

To celebrate the news, she also shares a great lead single “Shitty Town”, along with a theatrical music video for it, directed by Geoffrey O’Connor. It is a brilliant song that showcases Chadwick’s talent for creating emotionally resonant music. Raw in delivery and very powerful, it is impossible not to be attached to it after listening.
