[album] J.G.G. – Sinfín

Sinfín (the Spanish word for “endless”) is a new collection of 8 experimental songs by J.G.G., a Catalan (Barcelona) artist Jordi Gegé.

He gradually adds layer upon layer in the tracks, creating a hypnotic groove that sets the tone for the release, which is highly improvised and lo-fi. The final result is music that is both meditative and uplifting, creating a sense of wonder and calmness for the listeners. J.G.G. mastered a warm, organic sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic.

[ep] Mme Psychosis – Lagonda

Another exciting tape got released on the Barcelona label Ediciones Populares last month. This time it is a 3-track EP by Mme Psychosis titled Lagonda, a collaboration with the artist Helmut Heiss.

Lagonda is described as a nocturnal creature with a metal body that incorporates a Casio CZ-1000. It first saw the light in October 2022 at the Tanke / Drive-in Drive-thru (Vienna). Inspired by the work, Mme Psychosis wrote and performed 3 songs that invoked the spirit of Lagonda through suggestive notes, strobe lights and smoke.

The release is an immersive journey into the world of minimalistic and ethereal soundscapes. It has a strong cinematic quality, with each track evoking vivid images of some lost science fiction classic or dark, futuristic body horror movie. The best thing is that it is up to the listener to create those pictures in your head, depending on your current mind state and mood. The most important thing — you have to trust both Mme Psychosis and Lagonda to help you create those various senses.

[album] Valewood – Beautiful & Useless

Beautiful & Useless is a debut LP from the Los Angeles-based band Valewood, a trio of artists and best friends from Thousand Oaks.

The band had been working on it and crafting each track since 2017 and you can feel it. The songs here range in genres and styles but all carry powerful and intense emotions that musicians put into them, masterfully underlined by the strong storytelling engine that drives the record.

Captivating and introspective, Beautiful & Useless features heartfelt lyrics, dynamic soundscapes, and raw performances be that synth pop anthem, playful emo rocker or maximalist DIY indie rock smasher (yes, you can find all of this here, and more). The trio ran through themselves all their favourite influences of 2000/2010’s music and brewed their own sonic experience that is both emotionally resonant and thought-provoking.

Five-piece group put out their most ambitious collection of songs with dark and atmospheric post-punk soundscapes, gritty guitar riffs, and introspective lyrics. Every track is special in its own way as all of them have their own meaning and story, providing a captivating and evocative exploration of the human experience.

Natural Habitat invites listeners to think and reflect on the world we live in, question societal norms, and embrace the power of music as a catalyst for change.

[album] Leo Walrus – I May Need Some Silence

Hailing from Southend, Essex, but currently based in London, 22-year-old Leo Walrus releases today his debut collection of retro pop jewels titled I May Need Some Silence.

Out on Evil Tree #3 Records, the 11-song album sees the young artist masterfully creating psychedelic folk/pop bops in the 60s stylings but with a distinctive personal touch and modern indie sensibilities. Leo really embraces all his influences here and not locks himself with any limits. He confidently penned a captivating and nostalgic LP which shows infectious energy and clever songwriting.

After making such a great entrance it is very interesting to see where the artist would go next (it is a known fact that he is already working on the next release), but for now one thing is known for sure — he definitely knows how to write a song which sounds timeless and stays in your head for long after listening.

Highlights: “Can You Swim?”, “Angel Angel”, “The Smoke”.
