[ep] Nieve Fuga – Onda de Love

Nieve Fuga follows up their previous release Cuatro Osciladores and presents the new tape titled Onda de Love, out now on Barcelona’s Ediciones Populares (it is also the label’s 50th release).

The intricate modular synths employed in these songs transport listeners into a state of euphoric tranquillity, akin to the tender and peaceful feelings experienced during the initial moments of a blossoming romance. It is a beautiful short collection, filled with soothing melodies and serene atmospheres, perfect for your tranquil listening session.

[album] Pablo Volt – Cómo Sobrevivir al Verano

Pablo Volt’s third release for Barcelona’s independent label Ediciones Populares is titled Cómo Sobrevivir al Verano (How to Survive Summer) and it analyses this time of year in quite an uncommon way. He focuses on the struggles and problems which go hand-in-hand with the season such as abnormal heat, sleepless nights and lack of money.

Despite the themes mentioned, the album does not sound negative at all. More likely it can be perceived as an escapist trip, a way to put yourself in comfort when the surroundings are not comfortable at all. It is an adventurous and abstract record (due to its improvisational nature) but also pleasant and soothing. It also feels quite spiritual, with the transformed sounds of keyboards/voices/percussions that are making this journey magical and mysterious.

[ep] Nieve Fuga – Cuatro Osciladores

After being part of several projects such as Caer-Bien or Equipo Humano Uno, Nieve Fuga is releasing his first solo project Cuatro Osciladores (Four Oscillators), out now on Barcelona label Ediciones Populares.

It is a short experimental collection of miniatures that features meditative, understated rhythms that still manage to pull the listener in with its subtle sonic nuances. Five tracks on the release do not have titles and feature repetitive, minimalist melodies, which create one pleasant 10-minute trip. It is definitely worth taking, and the release leaves you curious about what we will get from Nieve Fuga next.

[album] J.G.G. – Sinfín

Sinfín (the Spanish word for “endless”) is a new collection of 8 experimental songs by J.G.G., a Catalan (Barcelona) artist Jordi Gegé.

He gradually adds layer upon layer in the tracks, creating a hypnotic groove that sets the tone for the release, which is highly improvised and lo-fi. The final result is music that is both meditative and uplifting, creating a sense of wonder and calmness for the listeners. J.G.G. mastered a warm, organic sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic.

[ep] Mme Psychosis – Lagonda

Another exciting tape got released on the Barcelona label Ediciones Populares last month. This time it is a 3-track EP by Mme Psychosis titled Lagonda, a collaboration with the artist Helmut Heiss.

Lagonda is described as a nocturnal creature with a metal body that incorporates a Casio CZ-1000. It first saw the light in October 2022 at the Tanke / Drive-in Drive-thru (Vienna). Inspired by the work, Mme Psychosis wrote and performed 3 songs that invoked the spirit of Lagonda through suggestive notes, strobe lights and smoke.

The release is an immersive journey into the world of minimalistic and ethereal soundscapes. It has a strong cinematic quality, with each track evoking vivid images of some lost science fiction classic or dark, futuristic body horror movie. The best thing is that it is up to the listener to create those pictures in your head, depending on your current mind state and mood. The most important thing — you have to trust both Mme Psychosis and Lagonda to help you create those various senses.
