[song] Say Hi – Happiness (In The Abstract)

Cult indie musician Eric Elbogen continues a fantastic run with his project Say Hi, releasing music for 20 years now. Not many artists are as dedicated to the DIY aesthetic as he is, constantly coming up with new ways to connect with his dedicated fan base (such as home gigs or online performances on Zoom) and consistently releasing new music. He just goes all the way in, and what is also very important — the music is always great.

Eric has just announced a new LP Elocution Prattle (his 14th) for early next year (February 2), and it would be a special one and definitely his most experimental.

A 20-song fully instrumental LP with a heavy emphasis on synths would be available on 2xLP Vinyl, CD, Hi-Res Digital & as part of a Mega-Super-Deluxe package. Sounds exciting and the first single “Happiness (In The Abstract)” that got released along with the announcement confirms it.

[song] Sorry – Closer

Ahead of the release of their new album Anywhere But Here this Friday (on Domino Records), Sorry share the latest single from it, “Closer”. It is a beautiful and melancholic number that underlines their gentle yet quite haunting sound.

It follows the previously unleashed songs “There’s So Many People That Want To Be Loved”, “Key To The City” and “Let The Lights On”.

The duo would also play in Italy early next year, on February 22 in Milan (at Arci Bellezza) and on February 23 in Bologna (at Covo Club).

[song] Personal Trainer – Former Puppy

On November 4 Personal Trainer from Amsterdam will release their debut LP Big Love Blanket and now they are sharing the latest song from it, “Former Puppy” (and a video). It is another outstanding number in a string of singles — “The Lazer”, “Rug Busters”, “Milk”, and “Key of Ego”.

The band will also embark on the UK/EU tour soon, which will include dates in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, plus even more shows in early 2023. Find more details on that here.

[song] LIFE – Hull Sky

What could be cooler than a great B-side? Fresh after the release of their latest LP North East Coastal Town, LIFE are back with the brand new song titled “Hull Sky”, which was written during the recording session for the album.

LIFE live in Berlin’19

Speaking of it vocalist Mez Green says: “Hull Sky sneers, stomps and powers along with themes of romance. Whilst it didn’t quite fit the feel of North East Coastal Town, we’re excited to release it as the B-Side to one of our favourite songs off the new album”.

A fresh number backs the latest single and highlight from the record “Shipping Forecast”, which also got the chaotic lo-fi performance music video.

Next week the group would also depart on their huge set of UK and EU tour dates. There would be two shows in Italy — on October 22 in Milan and October 23 in Bologna (find more information about the tickets on the band’s website).

[song] Julianna Riolino – Queen of Spades

Having teased us already with the singles “Lone Ranger” and “You”, Toronto-based artist Julianna Riolino (who is also known as a part of Daniel Romano’s The Outfit), shares another stunning cut “Queen of Spades”. It is a big alt-country number with that pop edge to give it a vivid and soulful flavor.

It is taken from her upcoming album All Blue, set for release on October 14 via You’ve Changed Records. She recorded it in August 2020 at the now-shuttered Baldwin Street Sound, and the LP was produced by Aaron Goldstein (credits with Cowboy Junkies, Ducks Ltd, Le Ren, Kiwi Jr).
