[ep] Nieve Fuga – Cuatro Osciladores

After being part of several projects such as Caer-Bien or Equipo Humano Uno, Nieve Fuga is releasing his first solo project Cuatro Osciladores (Four Oscillators), out now on Barcelona label Ediciones Populares.

It is a short experimental collection of miniatures that features meditative, understated rhythms that still manage to pull the listener in with its subtle sonic nuances. Five tracks on the release do not have titles and feature repetitive, minimalist melodies, which create one pleasant 10-minute trip. It is definitely worth taking, and the release leaves you curious about what we will get from Nieve Fuga next.

[album] Echo Ladies – Lilies

Malmö trio Echo Ladies released their sophomore LP Lilies on Friday (via Rama Lama Records / Gazehop Records). It is a brilliant shoegaze record that you must listen to if you’re a fan of dreamy and atmospheric sound immersed in shimmering guitars, layered textures, and melodic vocals.

The band references many of the genre’s greats here (The Jesus and Mary Chain, A Place To Bury Strangers, Slowdive) and adds a very distinctive personal touch to the mix. The mood of the album is melancholic yet hopeful, with themes of loss, yearning and human relationships that are intertwined with the music itself.

The lyrics create a poetic and impressionistic narrative that perfectly complements the instrumentals, adding depth and meaning to the album’s already immersive soundscapes. Echo Ladies are looking forward to the future on Lilies and are ready to balance all the heavy emotional weight that could be attached to it.

[album] The Natvral – Summer of No Light

It’s not often that musicians manage to reinvent themselves the way Kip Berman did. Already having a great career with his cult shoegaze band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, he later started releasing music under the name The Natvral, playing catchy, clever and powerful folk rock.

Summer of No Light is his second album (out now on Dirty Bingo Records), with the songs (according to him) “living somewhere between the climate crisis of 1816, the climate crisis of now, and the climate crisis of the heart”.

The record is notable for its stripped-down production and a big emphasis on storytelling. Berman keeps the arrangements of the songs spare and simple, allowing his lyrics and melodies to shine through. His music often feels like an honest conversation between himself and the listener, with confessional lyrics that feel both personal and universal at the same time.

[ep] Isaac Watters – Extended Play 002

A couple of days ago LA-based multi-disciplinary artist and songwriter Isaac Watters put out Extended Play 002, his thoughtfully crafted sophomore release for hi-res records. It is a stunning showcase of his lyrical prowess, musical experimentation and brilliant vocal delivery, which is the perfect match for the dark and atmospheric instrumentation.

This mini-album is a personal and introspective work that explores themes of the artist’s and humanity’s place on Earth, environmental issues, urban area living and more. Watters’s lyrics are melancholic and evocative, painting vivid pictures with his unique brand of storytelling and masterful, well-thought-out production. It is a true work of art that will linger with you long after the last track has played.

[ep] Le Junk – Hush

London multi-instrumentalist Le Junk (aka Shimon Joseph) releases his post-disco debut EP Hush, which is out now digitally and on vinyl. Spanning four tracks, it welcomes listeners with twinkling synths and a laid-back drum beat, setting the perfect mood for the album’s breezy, summery vibe.

One standout track is the lead single “Same Old Things”, which employs a pulsing bassline and bright, catchy melodies to create an irresistible dance groove.

Described by the artist as “a collection of songs that all touch on the theme of denial; denying truth, denying growth, denying happiness”, Hush is an open, sensual and catchy mini-album that would work perfectly for dancing all night under the disco ball.
