[song] Sour Blue – Weatherwax

The last time we heard from an art rock collective Sour Blue was in October when the band released their brilliant debut Schema. Now they are back with the new single, a mesmerizing composition “Weatherwax”.

On it musicians emphasize their undoubted professionalism, creating a sense of controlled chaos, and masterfully mixing genres, bridging krautrock, dance music, shoegaze, folk, and even classical. The track begins calmly, gradually gaining momentum and surprising at every corner with cool and unexpected details. An amazing taster — hopefully we will get more soon!

Listen below.

[ep] Sour Blue – Schema

Schema is the debut release from Sour Blue, a Los Angeles-based creative collective featuring multi-instrumentalists, audio and visual artists, and producers.

The members of the group should already be familiar for you if were reading this blog during the last couple of years — the musicians involved are Chris Cubbison (CGI dog), Devin Bierman (Dorvin Borman), John Warlick (John War), Kris Pitzek and Kyle McKay (Polysonic Bloom).

Together they all bring tons of ideas into the mix and the result is a masterfully produced, very original and innovative body of work. It is described by the band as electronic rock, but really it is impossible to connect their music to any genre — there are no similar songs here and the shape-shifting, experimental approach makes it impossible for listeners to predict their next move.

The release is out now and musicians are already finishing their second EP, with the plans to begin working on the debut album at the beginning of next year. Exciting times.

[album] CGI dog – Replacer

Today LA-based producer/artist Chris Cubbison aka CGI dog releases his debut record. Titled Replacer, it is an impressive body of work that he wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered during the last couple of years.

The musician himself describes the LP as colorful, which is very spot-on. It is a splendid collection of ten tracks (some of which were featured on this blog earlier and are our longtime favorites), a unique mix of music that is hard to pin down. Chris confidently explores a broad variety of genres, suprising the listeners with unexpected nuances and subtle details. It’s a record to get lost in.

Today marks the release date for John War’s debut record Fantasy, and we are very excited to feature the fantastic standout out of it, “The Difference”.

Being one of the artist’s oldest songs, it was re-optimized and perfected for the album, and the final result is a remarkable pop song, which masterfully combines emotional subject matters with breathtaking major-key melodies.

Stream it below and make sure to check out Fantasy in its entirety. You can also purchase it on Bandcamp and get two bonus tracks that are not on streaming services (all proceeds go to the ACLU).
