Big Special announced their debut LP POSTINDUSTRIAL HOMETOWN BLUES which will be out on May 10 via SO Recordings. Along with the news they are sharing a new single/video “DUST OFF / START AGAIN”.

The duo is already well-known for their raw energy, socially conscious lyrics, and electrifying live performances and the new track is not an exception. The relentless force of the instrumentation mirrors the song’s themes of English class issues regarding housing, ownership, mental illness, appropriation and human rights, creating a visceral listening experience that is both exhilarating and empowering.

Having released three punchy singles during the last couple of months, Birmingham duo Big Special had a great year, and with the latest song/music video “TREES” (which is probably their catchiest tune to date) it looks like 2024 would only be bigger for them.

The band nearly sold out their UK December headline tour, and they have now also been announced as headliners on DIY’s Now & Next UK tour for April 2024 + have shared news of their biggest London headline show to date for May 2024, at The Jazz Cafe.

Having made a loud entrance with the punchy “SHITHOUSE” last month, Birmingham duo Big Special returned today with another smasher titled “THIS HERE AIN’T WATER”. It’s a big song that’s both cathartic and empowering, and one that’s sure to get your blood pumping.

The group shared the following note about it: “It’s basically an inward sermon, when you’re stuck in your head egging yourself on about how rough times feel. It’s about media and politics. It’s about self-medication. It’s about a lack of options. It’s about the thinning of the common understanding between the social classes of England, and feeling stuck, watching it all happen.”

Not a second is wasted on “SHITHOUSE”, the new single by Birmingham duo Big Special. They have a message and some hooks to make the listening experience pleasant.

The song’s topic is very relevant and would undoubtedly translate to most people reading this text, with the group masterfully combining serious, gloomy themes with bits of dark humour. Singer Joe Hicklin says the following about it:

“SHITHOUSE is about a rough time. The societal depression we are going through and its personal effects on people. It’s about looking at it from the outside and living it from the inside. Seemingly, no matter the moves we make, it all ends up a shithouse and sometimes all we can do is shout about it”.
