[ep] TR/ST – TR/ST

LA-based musician Robert Alfons aka TR/ST signed to cult Dais Records at the end of 2023 and now we are getting an EP from him with some cool new material.

The 5-track release includes recent single “Robrash”, a fantastic duet with Canadian hyperpop star Cecile Believe titled “Run”, a cover of Pet Shop Boys classic “Being Boring” (featuring Jake Shears), a gentle ambient cut “Evercall”, and “Slug” (TR/ST’s classic back from 2015 that finally got an official release).

The production of the EP is meticulous, with Alfons and his collaborators creating a sound that is both contemporary and timeless. His ability to balance dark undertones with moments of euphoria is purely sublime, and with emotive lyrics, atmospheric soundscapes, and infectious beats it is a compelling listen for all the fans new and old.

[ep] Drab Majesty – An Object In Motion

The latest mini-album by Drab Majesty An Object In Motion released back in August consists of just four songs but it lasts nearly 33 minutes, and this is longer than many contemporary LPs. There’s just so much going on it that leaves a very big and lasting impression.

It was made with Uniform’s Ben Greenberg and sounds really epic, delivering a healthy dose of dark, synth pop noise odyssey. Justin Meldal-Johnson (Beck, M83) and Rachel Goswell (Slowdive) feature on several tracks, levelling up the whole thing even higher.

If you think all the above is not enough, there’s also one more surprise at the end of the release, in the form of a 15-minute voyage “Yield To Force” to give listeners the full Drab Majesty experience. Absolutely sublime.

[ep] Death Bells – Take My Spirit Now

Having released their latest LP Between Here & Everywhere last year, Death Bells return with a new, hauntingly beautiful collection of songs that explore themes of love, paranoia, and destiny.

Titled Take My Spirit Now, it spans five songs which introduce the newer, refreshed sound of the group. It is slightly lighter and more textured, with reverb-soaked guitars and big hooks. The lyrics are poetic and introspective, delving into the complexities of emotions and spirituality.

[video] Death Bells – Hysteria

Death Bells, the long-running musical collaboration between Will Canning and Remy Veselis, are back with a new song “Hysteria”. It serves as the latest preview of their upcoming record Between Here & Everywhere (out July 1 via Dais Records).

The single is released together with the moody performance music video, directed by Travis Waddell.

[album] Riki – Gold

LA-based artist and musician Riki continues mastering her take on cold but very lively 80s synth pop on her fresh album Gold, out now through Dais Records.

The new release was recorded with Telefon Tel Aviv founder Josh Eustis and is built around abstract lyrical themes, which go together with marvelous and danceable melodies — Riki is able to transform each song into an atmospheric synthesizer anthem.
