of Montreal, the beloved indie pop project led by Kevin Barnes, known for their eccentricity and boundless creativity, have shared a new song/video “Rude Girl on Rotation”.

It is a beautiful folk-inspired gem infused with the band’s signature sonic flair, and it serves as the second taster (after “Yung Hearts Bleed Free”) of Lady On The Cusp, the group’s upcoming new LP (set for release on May 17 via Polyvinyl Record Co). Accompanied by an official music video, it is a tantalizing glimpse of the musical brilliance that lies ahead.

Barnes shares the following about the single: “Rude Girl On Rotation was inspired, in part, by my impending move from Athens GA to our new home in Vermont. I used an open tuning on guitar that Nick Drake used a lot on his jammers. The bass line chugs along in a late 60’s West Coast rocker style, influenced by Canned Heat’s “Poor Moon”. I wanted the song to sound loose and under-produced. It took the least amount of time to record, of all the songs on the album. I hope you like it!”.

[video] Palehound – Independence Day

Already having released tracks “My Evil” and “The Clutch”, Palehound share a new single “Independence Day”, all taken from their upcoming record Eye On The Bat, which will be out July 14 on Polyvinyl Record Co.

It is a beautiful and cathartic song (out with the video directed by Brittany Reeber) that showcases El Kempner’s band talent as songwriters and their ability to convey complex emotions through music.

They share about the track: “The ending of a relationship that spanned the majority of my twenties illuminated a forked road that daunted me. In the aftermath of our breakup, I found myself dwelling on what that other life would have been like and who I would have become had we chosen differently, or even if circumstance or tragedy had chosen for us”.

[ep] Xiu Xiu – Ignore Grief (Remixes)

Having created one the most experimental and interesting records of 2023 so far in the form of Ignore Grief, Xiu Xiu gave their fans another treat earlier this week — a brilliant remixes collection of two tracks from the album.

It features A Place To Bury Strangers’ adaptation of “Brothel Creeper” and Rawzilk’s 14-minute rework of “Pahrump”. Fans of experimental music and avant-garde soundscapes are sure to find something to love in these boundary-pushing re-imaginations of what already are the jewels of harsh, abrasive and truly fascinating sound creations.
