[ep] University – Title Track

Uneasy and unpredictable, University’s debut EP Title Track just works. It is hard to describe it with actual words, as it is one of those albums that is probably best experienced without any introduction at all. It is loud, deranged, and skull-crushing, ticking all the boxes of an excellent noise punk release.

What also makes the group stand out from the crowd is their attitude. Everything about this mini-album is extremely raw (title, artwork, production), but it is made with such precision, dedication and furious energy that makes it special. Title Track swallows the listener fully with its raucous power. It is hard to even imagine how exciting it sounds in a live setting.

[video] Ben Gregory – blue sea blue

Former Blaenavon member Ben Gregory will release a debut solo album, episode, on April 7 via Transgressive Records.

The latest single from it is “blue sea blue” — an epic, ten-minute-long song, released together with the fantastic music video that is no less ambitious. It was directed by Natàlia Pagès and features Gregory alongside the Czech National Ballet.

The track follows previously unveiled “deathbed hangover” and “manifest*”.

[album] The WAEVE – The WAEVE

The WAEVE is a group of two longtime musicians, Blur guitarist Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall, co-founder of the indie pop band The Pipettes (both of them have also successful solo careers with multiple great albums). Last Friday they put out their eponymous debut LP, and it is terrific.

The pair presents a healthy mixture of genres on it, blending British folk music, progressive and krautrock elements with quiet intros, personal lyricism and powerful musical climaxes. Coxon also plays saxophone here more than guitars, which adds some extra flair, same as the combination of their vocals.
