[album] DYGL – A Daze In A Haze

Japanese four-piece DYGL (pronounced as Day Glo) released a brand new LP titled A Daze In A Haze, a very well-crafted indie rock record that feels enjoyable and anthemic.

From beginning to end it is filled with impressive hooks that you would not be able to get out of your head, and it also grows at every repeated listen. A very solid addition to their great discography.

[album] Phobophobes – Modern Medicine

Phobophobes strike back with the sophomore LP Modern Medicine, full of brilliant, complex and slightly neurotic songs. They feature distinctive vocals from frontman Jamie Bardolph Taylor, gritty guitars, punchy rhythm section, satirical lyrics and gothic synthesizers that tinkle like an organ during church mass.

What’s interesting is that the record doesn’t have that super gloomy atmosphere, and instead is perceived as a collection of irresistible rock hits, performed in a fresh and non-standard setting.

[song] Van Houten – IDK

Leeds lo-fi quintet Van Houten is back with an addictive psychedelic bop “IDK”, which serves as the first new single from the band after their EP Home Alone, released in November last year.

The track is available now through Clue Records, and will also form a double-A-side 7” as part of a package for record subscription service Flying Vinyl.

[album] Francis Lung – Miracle

The third record from Tom McClung aka Francis Lung finds the musician at his most playful, personal and accomplished. There’s no fillers here — every song is just perfect.

The release has a beautiful sound with laconic piano inserts and chirping vocals; in places it recalls the pioneers of guitar pop music, like The Beatles and The Beach Boys and in places it gravitates towards contemporaries, such as William Doyle and Matt Maltese.

Melancholic and deeply personal all the way through, it will make a heart-wrenching soundtrack for the hot summer nights this year.

[album] Space Daze – Visible Spectrum

The chief songwriter of the well-missed band Seapony, Danny Rowland, returns with the new EP of his lovely solo project Space Daze.

Visible Spectrum is out today and it features five gorgeous indie pop tracks with sweet, signature guitar riffs, hazy vocals and drum machine sounds, all covered with wispy and dreamy vibes.
