Buty sovoiu is a new album from Ukrainian sound producer and singer Zbaraski, on which he creates a very distinctive and catchy brand of eclectic indie pop music.

He operates successfully in this field — each song from the release is a real earworm that creeps up in your brain deeper and deeper with each listen. What he does even better is shaping a mood, as the album quickly blends into one exciting musical journey, and with Zbaraski’s stellar vocal performance and production there is only one complaint — the record is just too short.

[album] The Psychotic Monks – Pink Colour Surgery

France’s The Psychotic Monks have released one of the most interesting records we heard recently. Produced by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox, Pink Colour Surgery is quite unique, and while there are certain elements from different genres here the end result is truly inimitable.

The closest how we would be able to describe this album is progressive death post-punk, a dark and claustrophobic journey with well-balanced 5-10 minutes songs and short, intimate interludes. A truly hypnotizing, one-of-a-kind experience.

[album] The WAEVE – The WAEVE

The WAEVE is a group of two longtime musicians, Blur guitarist Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall, co-founder of the indie pop band The Pipettes (both of them have also successful solo careers with multiple great albums). Last Friday they put out their eponymous debut LP, and it is terrific.

The pair presents a healthy mixture of genres on it, blending British folk music, progressive and krautrock elements with quiet intros, personal lyricism and powerful musical climaxes. Coxon also plays saxophone here more than guitars, which adds some extra flair, same as the combination of their vocals.

[album] Mozart Estate – Pop​-​Up! Ker​-​Ching! And The Possibilities Of Modern Shopping

Legendary Lawrence has been delivering great tunes for us over the years with Felt, Denim and Go-Kart Mozart. Looks like he is not planning to stop anytime soon, and last Friday he unveiled a new project — Pop​-​Up! Ker​-​Ching! And The Possibilities Of Modern Shopping, released this time under the moniker Mozart Estate.

Described by Lawrence himself as an album about consumerism and shopping, it is an eccentric, smart and extremely catchy collection of 16 songs. It would definitely appeal to anyone who liked the previous 4 Go-Kart Mozart LPs, but even if it would be your first Lawrence experience there is a huge chance that you will become a fan right away.

It is also mentioned that he would be touring throughout this year, so fingers crossed that we would also have a chance to see him live somewhere in Europe (which is something that is extremely rare).

[album] We Are Scientists – Lobes

An eighth album from We Are Scientists is full of surprises. Partly it was recorded around the same time as they did their previous LP Huffy, but a change of direction is very obvious here. There were cool experiments earlier, like “Bought Myself A Grave”, but on Lobes they go full-on dark pop/disco/dance rock, with such new anthems as “Human Resources” (easily the best song here), “Less From You”, “Operator Error” and many more.

This does not mean that if you liked the past work then Lobes won’t work for you. On the contrary, the new songs will for sure satisfy existing fans as they feature those good old gigantic hooks and the group’s signature charm, but they might also help the band to expand its audience with fresh ideas. An amazing achievement and result for indie veterans who have been performing on stage for almost 25 years now.
