[album] Naked Lungs – Doomscroll

How to make an exciting debut album and stand out from the crowd? Go extreme, get furious and make some noise. That’s precisely what Naked Lungs did on Doomscroll, their first long-form release. It features ten tracks and all of them deserve your attention.

The musicians mastered the craft of creating tension by shaping the walls of sound with horror-ish guitars, controlled feedback and a bombastic rhythm section. They are playing with listeners, not giving out any easy song structures or being loud just for the sake of being loud. Instead, they go full-on devilish here by making the formless and crushing musical numbers that itch the nerves and ears just perfectly.

It makes very little sense to dissect the record for separate songs or over-analyzing them. Like a great horror movie, it is best experienced as a whole, alone and with your full attention. It is a thrilling and intense listening experience, and now the main question is — how crazy does it sound live? We have to check that the soonest.

“River (Down)” is another heavy smasher by Irish four-piece Naked Lungs, who keep on masterfully building up the suspense for the release of their debut record Doomscroll. It will be out on August 18, and we also heard two impressive singles previously.

The new one is a powerful and haunting song that shows the band’s wall-of-sound approach and intense energy, that constantly keeps the listener on edge.

In addition to the new single, Naked Lungs also recently announced details for their first headline UK tour, which is due to start in September and will finish at The Shacklewell Arms in London on 3rd Oct (tickets are available here).

Naked Lungs definitely know a thing or two about true horror, both in terms of sound and visuals — their latest single “Relentless” is another example of that.

A heavy dose of pure post-punk/industrial rock madness combined with the sinister and frightening music video directed by Ryan Mortell from the band works just perfectly, making this noisy Irish four-piece one of the most exciting outfits of 2023.

Their debut record Doomscroll will be out on August 18. It was recorded and mixed by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin. Moreover, Naked Lungs have also announced details for their first headline UK tour finishing at The Shacklewell Arms in London (find more information on that here).

Naked Lungs have shared a video for loud and feral new single “Pressure”, which serves as a first taster of their debut record Doomscroll, set for release on August 18. The long-awaited album was recorded and mixed by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin.

The horror-ish music video was directed and edited by the band’s bassist, Ryan Mortell, and it definitely adds to the overall sense of chaos and aggression of the song.
