In ten days Leeds luminary Spielmann will put out his debut EP Fifteen Minutes With Spielmann (arriving through EMI North/Launchpad+), and today we are getting a final preview of it, “It’s A Lifetime”.

The track strikes a balance between genuine emotion and irony, a recurring theme in Spielmann’s upcoming release. Once again the artist uses his songwriting to find humour in life’s challenges, resulting in the anthemic earworm with infectious energy and relatable lyrics.

Speaking about the single, Spielmann shared: “’It’s A Lifetime’ was the 2nd song I ever wrote as Spielmann a couple of years back and definitely was a bit of a marker of how I wanted to approach the lyrical content/vibe/world of Spielmann. It’s got some classic Spielmann bits in there, nihilism, getting old, losing my hair, as well as some stuff that I meant to be reasonably light hearted, poking fun at the futility of things, but my mum and dad wanted to check in on me after hearing it as they thought it was a bit dark, so maybe I didn’t quite get the tone right, they do worry though. If it was adapted into a Netflix drama (I’m open to offers) I think you’d categorise it as a Black Comedy’”.

Building on the success of his previous singles, Leeds luminary Spielmann has unveiled the plans for an upcoming debut EP Fifteen Minutes With Spielmann, out May 31 through EMI North/Launchpad+ (Nadine Shah, Bored At My Grandmas House, Van Houten).

The lead single from it is “10,000 Hours”, an anthemic piece with amusing lyrical remarks, layered over the exuberant sounds of drum machines, synthesizers, and glistening guitars. Speaking more on the song, Spielmann offers:

“I’ve been knocking around this idea of writing a song about doing a podcast for a while. I find the idea of normal blokes doing podcasts quite amusing, there’s an arrogance in thinking people are so interested in what you have to say about craft beer that they’d actively choose to listen to it, which, as another normal bloke, writing songs that you think people want to listen to, the irony of that comment isn’t lost on me”.

[song] Spielmann – The Seventh Time

Ahead of the busy upcoming period full of shows, Leeds songwriter Ben Lewis (Menace Beach, Ruthie, Bruising) aka Spielmann shares “The Seventh Time”, an anthemic and upbeat indie pop jewel, which builds up at the end to the breathtaking synth pop crescendo.

Speaking about the track, he explains: “The Seventh Time is a conversation between two friends, one putting all their time and effort into ‘discovering’ who they are, and the other trying to stage some sort of intervention. It finishes up with a message of just kind of, being yourself, and being comfortable with who you are, which is a nice thing…Whether the intervention is a successful one or not remains to be seen…”.

Start your day with “The Right Track”. This is exactly what is offered to us by Spielmann, the new project of Leeds songwriter Ben Lewis (Menace Beach, Ruthie, Bruising), whose musical potential has spread far beyond his previous endeavors.

The song (which is his second single after “Coming Back”) is a journey into the world of airy synths, light drum machine beats and anthemic choruses that we all love so much. It is also released with a simple but creative and nice music video. Describing it, Spielmann explains:

As we all know to be a successful musician in this day and age you also have to be a professional content creator… so I created some content. An exercise in how to shoot a music video in one take for exactly zero pounds. Thematically dealing with the big issues such as ‘Where should one’s stool be in relation to one’s microphone?’ and, ‘Don’t you wish you had a 30 year old Volvo 440?
