[song] Wy – Teeth

The new single from Wy “Teeth” is a brilliant slice of their nostalgic indie pop, a gentle tune on which the Malmö duo of Ebba and Michel Gustafsson Ågren deliver another atmospheric experience.

The song follows up their album Marriage, released last year, and will be included in the upcoming EP Something Amazing, which is out June 17 via Rama Lama Records.

“Teeth” is described by the duo as a song about “standing helpless on the sideline when someone close to you is struggling. About feeling desperate to help when there’s nothing you can do but to be by their side and wait for it all to pass. It feels extra relevant now that we have become parents. Suddenly there’s an abundance of things we cannot control, and there’s going to be a lot more of that in the future. It’s a hard thing to accept, but you can’t protect the ones you love from everything, even if you want to”.

Danish four-piece Kindsight creates a brilliant, sugary brand of indie rock with big choruses, and their new one “Sun Is Always in My Eyes” is an excellent example of that. It is a sweet and sun-kissed single, that is greatly complimented by a simple but very nice music video, which summery vibes will greatly help to brighten our current January existence.

Moreover, they are announcing their debut album, Swedish Punk. It is out March 25 through Rama Lama Records and if you are a fan of such bands as Alvvays, Camera Obscura, and Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes, then don’t sleep on this.

[video] JERKA – Living on my own

JERKA is a new solo project of Malmö DIY musician Jesper Pettersson (Gula Blend). He has already shared his debut single “Natten”, and now he is following it up with a first English track from the project, “Living on my own” (out now through Rama Lama Records).

The song (presented with the self-made music video) is a 2-minute roar of independent lo-fi music, a propulsive and unstoppable number from a new underground star.

A couple of weeks ago the Malmö duo Wy have released their great Marriage via Rama Lama Records, a fascinating LP that stands out as one the best this year.

Now the group shares an eerie and elegant music video for the record’s highlight “Braid”.

[album] Wy – Marriage

Where most see vulnerability, the Swedish duo Wy see their strengths. Not external vulnerability, but mental; the kind of it that is seen in the usual analysis of problems — with friends and family.

On the new LP Marriage (released through Rama Lama Records) songs of the young married couple Ebba and Michel are centered around their personal relationship, easily equated to other recent alliances.

These are songs about love, hope, but also anger, fear and pain, which carry with them a certain therapeutic effect — they elude the group’s past works and turn marriage into a concept of moving forward and backwards at once. Their Marriage consists of beautiful lyrics, complemented by quiet keyboards and minimalistic guitars.
