[song] Nation of Language – Weak In Your Light

Nation of Language performing live at Locomotiv Club, Bologna’22

One of the most hardworking bands on the scene, a Brooklyn-based synth-pop trio Nation of Language, announced their third album Strange Disciple which is set for release on September 15 via [PIAS] Recordings.

In addition to the record announcement, the band has also shared a new single titled “Weak In Your Light”. An opener for the record, it is a powerful slow burner, which masterfully encapsulates everything we love about this outfit.

[song] Bee Bee Sea – Time and Time

Bee Bee Sea haven’t released any music since 2020’s great Day Ripper, but just yesterday a new song titled “Time and Time” landed on streaming platforms. The track, written in the midst of the pandemic years, is loosely inspired by Richard Hell and the Voidoids’ song “Time”, from which the verse “only time can write a song that’s really real” is taken.

It is an electrifying and powerful rock song that immediately captures the listener’s attention and sees an Italian band shifting towards the fuzzy garage punk territory, with all the right elements such as a driving drumbeat, distorted guitar riffs and gritty vocals. It would also be out on a limited edition pink 7″ vinyl via Wild Honey Records, b/w another song “Memories of Another Life”.

The trio have already confirmed many live dates over the Spring and Summer, that will touch Spain, Italy and the UK, with more to be announced soon (more information can also be found on their Facebook).

[song] Alien Chicks – Candlestick Maker

There is no doubt that “Candlestick Maker” by London-based Alien Chicks is a fan’s favourite song at live shows. Having conquered the audience with their incendiary energy and versatile approach to genres, the trio tries themselves in new, post-avant-garde trends.

A fresh single, with its raging guitars and manic vocal delivery, presents the band from a different side. Who knows what they’ll come up with next?

[song] Enola Gay – PTS.DUP

Following an incident with a member being brutalised in a sectarian attack that left him with a fractured skull, Belfast-based band Enola Gay sublimated their energy into the new single “PTS.DUP”.

The single was produced by Johnny Hostile (Savages/Jehnny Beth) and recorded with Rian Tench and Scan (Phillip Glass/Panikatax). In just two minutes, vocalist Fionn Reilly creates an eerie atmosphere with his agile delivery and humming guitars in the background turning the track into a distorted horror soundtrack.

Enola Gay’s lyrics could very well be the basis for a future manifesto, so we can’t wait to check out what their upcoming EP Casement has got in store for us (it will be out this summer through Modern Sky UK).

[song] Big Bliss – A Seat at the Table

Songs by Brooklyn-based outfit Big Bliss blossom gradually — first we hear the rhythm section, a floating synthesizer plays in the background, and then Tim Race’s vocals lead all this action behind him.

Inspiring, and at the same time melancholic, the band’s new single “A Seat at the Table”, a fresh taster after five long years since At Middle Distance LP, is similar to the main sign of spring, a flower. But like any living organism, under the yoke of external conditions such as social tension, personal experiences and collective traumas — it is destined to fade.

The good news is that Big Bliss doesn’t have to wait for the change of seasons for new creative endeavours, just wait for the date when their next release comes out. The band’s forthcoming LP, Vital Return, is out on August 18 via Good Eye Records.
