[video] Frog – New Ro

Last month Frog (brothers Danny & Steve Bateman) released their excellent LP Grog, and now they are sharing new visuals for the album’s highlight “New Ro”.

The music video was directed by Jarod Walker and it sees the band members walking around the streets of New York, enjoying their time together.

[video] Grandaddy – Cabin in My Mind

Cult indie rock band Grandaddy, who recently announced their much-anticipated new record Blu Wav (due out February 16 via Dangerbird Records), shared a new single “Cabin in My Mind”.

Released alongside a music video, it is a true melancholic earworm and frontman Jason Lytle said the following regarding the song’s meaning:

“A while back I was travelling with a friend, doing some shows and just riffing, and he came up with this phrase. It made so much sense to me and had so many things just within the title itself: shutting off and just, like, going inward. It’s fun to imagine literally a cabin inside your mind. ‘I’m out of here, see ya, guys’ and you walk in the front door, shut the door and disappear for a while.’ It was perfect like an old country song where the title says everything. I remembered the phrase, and it was easy for me to pick it up and just make it work”.

[video] Chalk – The Gate

Chalk performing live at Waves Festival, Vienna’23

“The Gate”, a brand-new single from Belfast trio Chalk strikes hard and immediately. An industrial noise rock number, out now through their new home Nice Swan Records, it is filled with manic vocal delivery, feral percussion and chilling field recordings. The song follows their (insanely good) debut EP Conditions, released earlier this year.

It is out with the appropriately matching horror-ish music video, directed by Benedict Goddard. Speaking about the track, frontman Ross Cullen revealed:

“‘The Gate’ is a song about the pressures that surround you. The first musical part that was written was the ending, which is an ode to ‘Come to Daddy’ by Aphex Twin. I wanted to create a track inspired by Locked Club or Mica Levi, something that had a type of deranged percussion playing at a 1/16 rate. Then I found a drum and bass drum sample which we had Luke re-record in the drum booth. Luke and Ben came up with the vocal delivery for the “Push and Pull” bits then I coloured in the rest. We’re leaning into sampling a lot more – especially our own field recordings – sounds of public transport, and construction that we’ve built a library of”.

[video] Heartworms – May I Comply

South London’s Heartworms aka Jojo Orme has returned with “May I Comply”, her first new release since EP A Comforting Notion was out earlier this year. It is an outstanding gothic rock ripper and it might be the punchiest song she has revealed so far.

The track is out with the accompanying music video, directed by Gilbert Trejo. It beautifully encapsulates the essence of the project’s musical style and aesthetics. Hopefully, the debut LP is somewhere on the horizon.

[video] Vaermina – Real Panic

London experimental rock trio Vaermina announced their debut LP Tantrum, which will be out November 24.

Today they are sharing a new taste of the record titled “Real Panic”, and it’s a true whirlwind of frenetic energy and auditory chaos in the form of a song. It’s a sonic adventure that captivates and bewilders, leaving us very excited to check out the whole album!

The single is out with an experimental video inspired by Japanese Horror and dark web aesthetics — directed by Bertik Korenek and starring cosplayer FeiFei as its disturbed protagonist.
