[album] Pynch – Howling At A Concrete Moon

The debut record by Pynch just hits that sweet spot. It is a perfect record that should appeal to both people in their 30s (or older) who are nostalgic for those cool bands of the early 00s and also to young listeners, who might as well find their new favourite music group in them. Howling At A Concrete Moon is steeped in noughties electronica and indie rock, with each song having a special lo-fi touch and endless charm, underlined by clever and fun lyrics.

What is also important is that this LP is very modern. Instead of drawing inspiration from the past, Pynch set their own benchmarks. Spencer Enock touches on many crucial current themes in the songs to which listeners could definitely relate, and this makes the whole album even better.

There are simply no fillers here, be that re-recorded version of an early classic “Disco Lights”, a previously unheard fantastic two-part stomper “The City” (a real ode to the metropolitan malaise — a feeling familiar, probably, to any inhabitant of a big city), or what an already is a cult single “Somebody Else”. All these songs are just amazing. What we can do now is listen to the album on repeat from start to finish and do everything possible to see Pynch live.

[song] Pynch – Tin Foil

In January Pynch announced their debut album Howling at a Concrete Moon via Chillburn Recordings. So far we have heard several tracks from it, and now, ahead of the record arriving next week already, the band have shared one last preview of it, a sunny and catchy “Tin Foil”.

Speaking about it, band leader Spencer Enock shares: “When we play live I always jokingly introduce ‘Tin Foil’ as being about conspiracy theories but really, I think it’s about how complex and overwhelming the modern world can be.

It feels like we’ve been in one form of crisis or another for my entire adult life and this song is about our over-exposure to that level of stimulation and the need to escape it all and ‘get lost forever.

It’s definitely one of our most upbeat and irreverent songs so it feels right to be releasing it at the beginning of spring and just before the album comes out”.

On April 14 one of our favourite new bands Pynch will release Howling at a Concrete Moon, their highly-anticipated debut record.

We have heard some amazing songs out of it already and now the four-piece continues their hot streak of singles with the new offering “London”, another earworm with crunchy guitar riffs, an anthemic chorus and a driving bassline. It is released alongside the accompanying video, shot on Super 8 and directed by Scott and Spencer Enock from the group.

In need of a new favourite band for 2023? Look no further! England’s Pynch will release a debut album, Howling at a Concrete Moon on April 14. Co-produced by Andy Ramsay of Stereolab it would be out through Chillburn Recordings and is available for pre-order now.

Having spent the past four years building up, playing shows, working on their sound and releasing a couple of brilliant singles (including a sold-out 7″ collaboration with Speedy Wunderground), the four-piece is finally ready to give the world their first full-length.

Along with an announcement they have also shared a music video for one of the album tracks, a nostalgic and anthemic “2009”. It features various footage of the group and was shot on Super 8 and directed by Spencer and Scott Enock of the band.

[video] Pynch – Karaoke

One of our favourite new bands to appear on the scene over the past few years, London quartet Pynch, have returned with the new single “Karaoke”.

It is their fourth banger in a row and yet again it shows how talented these guys are! Hopefully an album (or EP) is on the way.

Check it out below complete with a captivating karaoke video, directed by Spencer Enock.
